Sidley Austin LLP provides legal advice to U.S. exporters and non-U.S. importers and producers, including guidance on the classification of products, parts, software, services, and technologies against the Commerce Control List (CCL) and United States Munitions List (USML). We also advise potential investors and U.S. entities in the context of reviews by Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). We are seeking a non-Export Classification Specialist to support the Global Arbitration, Trade and Advocacy group. We are seeking a candidate with a technical and engineering background. This candidate will support Sidley attorneys, advising clients on technical aspects of export classification, and licensing issues. A broad scientific base and research aptitude is strongly preferred since the subject matter varies greatly and the relevant parameters are specific.

This position works closely with the Director, Account Manager and Account team as an extension of our client’s trade compliance organization. This position is responsible for performing the day-to-day tactical activities as defined by the Client’s procedures and ensuring their Global Export and Import activities are done in a timely and compliant manner; this also includes performing ECCN and HTS classifications. This position requires the individual to be self-motivated, have a high attention to detail with a passionate can-do attitude. Working from home requires the individual to hold themselves accountable and work efficiently with limited supervision.
Spirit of America seeks a highly competent, strategic, and motivated Manager, Export Compliance. The Manager, Export Compliance is responsible for and oversees the daily operations and strategic development of the export control program by working with internal stakeholders to provide actionable guidance on export regulations, conducting classifications of goods/services, preparing export license applications, applying appropriate use of license exceptions when available, maintaining the corporate records related to each transaction evaluated under the export control program, and assisting business partners to navigate export approvals all with an end goal of ensuring regulatory compliance. The Manager, Export Compliance will primarily focus on efforts related to the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and will also assist with similar export authorization actions pursuant to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) as necessary. The Manager, Export Compliance may also serve as the Empowered Official for all Export Control matters. This is a full-time, exempt, in-office position based in the Arlington, VA office.
